Air-to-air missile Astra test-fired from Sukhoi-30 MKI
BALASORE: India on Tuesday successfully flight-tested its indigenously developed air-to-air missile Astra, off the coast of Odisha.
The state-of-the-art missile was launched from Sukhoi-30 MKI as a part of user trials by the Indian Air Force, an official statement said.
"The live aerial target was engaged accurately demonstrating the capability of first indigenous air-to-air missile," it said.
The sophisticated missile, which has a strike range of over 70 kms, can fly towards the target at a speed of over 5,555 km per hour, they said.
The missile has a 15-kilogramme high-explosive pre-fragmented warhead, the sources added.

We need a missile that tracks the target and fires ! And can't be tracked by the radars . Because we have to hit each and every defence base of Pakistan very accurately and precisely .

Good work but we will need missiles that can travel further than 150 km to avoid future long range air to air missiles being developed in China, that can, according to some reports, travel further than any other air to air missile currently in the world.

Good development, but one needs to understand Pakistan has a better range for Air to Air missile, (100km) which was clearly displayed during Balakot episode. It is extremely disappointing that IAF is not only behind but grossly underestimated Pak airforce and continue to do so.
